In October 1880 Rörich sold his farms with three mines and a village to the Exploration Co. a subsidiary of De Beers On site was a big barn and because it was appropriate for keeping church services he donated the yard with the barn to his fellow members of the Dutch Reformed Church and it was explicitly excluded from the sale During 1881 the barn was improved with a stone floor and windows and after that it was known as The Church Building By the end of 1883 there were already sufficient children for a state school and on 14 April 1884 Johannes Steyn was welcomed by parents and 25 children in the church building school
