Weighbridges

Weighbridges, also known as truck scales, or railroad scales are large sets of weighing equipment, usually mounted permanently on a concrete foundation to weigh entire rail or road vehicles and their contents to calculate load.  Load cells are the prime measuring sensors for weighbridges and therefore are the most critical components.  Modern weighbridges use multiple load cells that connect to electronic equipment to add up the sensor inputs.

Many weighbridges are now linked to a personal computer which runs truck scale software capable of printing tickets and providing reporting features such as those used for collecting toll fees on the highways.  The two basic types of load cells used on weighbridges are analogue load cells and digital load cells.  Weighbridges are classified as non-automatic weighing instruments and, if the weight data is to be used as part of any commercial transaction, they require certification from the relevant standards associations.  Weighbridges can be portable or fixed, depending on the need.  They can be purchased outright, leased or hired.

The usefulness of weighbridges to any economy is paramount as they cover large scale weighing of goods that would otherwise be impossible to achieve using any other method. In the Yellow Pages you can find addresses and contact details of suppliers, manufacturers, certifiers and those who supply repairs and maintenance components that cover the following types of weighbridges -  Electronic (deep/pitless), Digital (shallow, deep pit or pitiless), Rail weighbridges, Movable/ immovable  weighbridges, Mechanical weighbridges, Electro-mechanical weighbridges, Axle Scales and Portable Ramp Scales
