Walls Retaining

A retaining wall is built with durable materials - either bricks or concrete. It helps avoid loose soil from eroding and causing damage to  property. Retaining walls are built by individual contractors or construction companies. Civil engineers also do paving and retaining walls and build to clients specifications.

Glass pebbles and other stones may be used for decoration purposes within the wall construction. Retaining walls made of concrete or steel last long. They are able to survive pressure and are not prone to cracks or ruptures that may lead to bending of the wall. It is important to have proper drainage behind the wall in order to limit the pressure to the wall.

When designing a retaining wall there are considerations to be made. These include recognizing and counteracting tendencies of the retained material to move downslope due to gravity. Residential pavings and driveways are another way of avoiding the washing away of soil and muddy slides, especially in infrastructure built on steep slopes.
