Traffic Control Systems


Traffic control systems are systems designed around the management and flow of traffic.
 
Traffic control systems are also applicable at airports, seaports, and other places where transportation vehicles are operative. Air traffic control systems are systems designed to regulate the amount of aircrafts that are circulating an airport. This system also controls the many planes that take off from a particular airport. Traffic control systems at narrow passage-ways along sea lanes are also applied in places like the Suez Canal near Egypt or the Panama Canal in South America. However, most types of traffic control systems are applied for vehicles that travel on roads.
 
This type of traffic control usually involves directing traffic around accident scenes, construction sites, and other areas where traffic jams occur. Ideally traffic control systems would regulate high traffic areas in order to ease traffic congestion. This is usually made possible by synchronising traffic lights, placing points-people at certain areas, or widening highways and other main or artery roads. Monitoring of traffic flows using CCTV cameras, road counter wires, and other observation methods, also allows the authorities to put relevant systems in place.  One of the more effective methods to maintain traffic control systems is to pass and enforce traffic laws. This may include the application of awareness programs, point demerits systems, and traffic fines.
 
Implementing high traffic one-way lanes including the placing of traffic lights at certain junctions are also useful when designing traffic control systems.
