Tools – Cutting

A cutter or a cutting tool is any tool that is used to distort a shape of a particular item, for example lawn mowers and trimmers are used for lawn levelling.  There are linear cutting tools which consist of single point cutting tools (broaches) and rotary cutting tools which consist of countersinks. Hacksaw blades and fly cutters combine aspects of linear rotary motion.

In woodwork there are a number of cutting tools that are used for shaping and trimming of the wood. These tools include ripsaws, chisels, coping saws and crosscut saws. Cutting tools must be of a harder material than that of the material to be cut. Most cutting materials are made of metal. Some cutting tools are designed with replacement tips. These help to repair the damaged part by replacing the tip than to buy a new tool.

In the Agricultural industry, tools like hoes are used to remove weeds. Other tools such as choppers, axes & sickles are also used. A sickle is another cutter used for harvesting grain crops or cutting succulent forage for feeding livestock (sheep, horses and cattle). Trees are cut down using axes. They are sometimes trimmed to maintain a desired shape. For cutting tools to have a long life span they must be looked after and kept in store rooms.

Tools must be lubricated to avoid friction between moving surfaces and rust.
