Time management

Previously, about two decades ago, before development of technology made great leaps for the better, human resources managers were the main monitors of time management at workplaces. They usually selected supervisors to assist them with these time management duties for those manufacturing and mining companies that ran twenty four hour shifts. In carrying out manual time management, employees have to sign attendance registers each time they get in and out of the office.

Human resource managers use these registers to analyse and make note if their teams are coming to work and if so, when are they in the office and when do they leave the office. Such systems were also used to monitor lunch breaks. However, manual time management is difficult because it relies on people being honest on the time they log in and out; a criteria which human beings have not shown great strength. People find it easy to manipulate these timesheets and registers whereby even if a person came to the office late, they would write that they were on time.

Computers systems have made it possible for companies to utilize clock cards and different types of computer software and software solution services. Access control systems have automated time recorders which make it possible for one to observe when a specific person clocked in or clocked out. These systems keep all clocking records for analysis by human resources managers, at a later time.
