Tiles - Roof

Roof tiling is the process of protecting the house by putting roof tiles to save it from the rain. Roof tiles are made out of clay, concrete or terracotta and are made in various shapes. Roof tiling involves making sure that the tiles are arranged in a parallel manner and are overlapping each other to keep the rain out.  The tiles are then reinforced in that position by being nailed to the roof frame. The edges and ridges of the roof have special tiles that are shaped for those particular places on the roof.

Some roof tiles have a waterproof glaze to protect against water or rain. Other ways of waterproofing a flat roof is by putting tar paper and felt paper under the tiles. To ensure effective waterproofing, the ceiling should be waterproofed as well in case the proofing on the roof gives way. When painting the roof, ensure that it has been thoroughly cleaned before it is painted. This can be done by using a hose and a broom or a high pressure water blaster. When the roof is clean, it can then be painted with the paint colour of your choice.

Always remember that the ridge caps should be repaired,  this is very important as it will assist to seal the roof. One can paint with a paint brush though an airless spray gun is more time effective. View the Yellowpages online to find roof tiles of your choice in South Africa.
