Sprockets

You might have heard the word sprocket before, but are not entirely sure what it exactly means. A sprocket is a toothed wheel upon which a chain rides. Sprockets look a lot like gears, but contrary to popular believes it is not gears. The basic design of these very simple mechanical devices have been used around the world for a very long time and are still being used today in various applications including vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles.

Bicycles generally have a sprocket which the chain rides on allowing for movement. This is probably one of the applications we are most familiar with that uses a sprocket. Sprockets are available in various sizes and can be obtained from motorcycle shops, bicycle shops and spare parts shops in your area at competitive prices. Just like any other part or component, the sprocket will eventually wear and will have to be replaced.

Replacing the sprocket on your bicycle, motorcycle or vehicle is not that difficult at all as long as everything is done in the correct order. Replacing these mechanical devices can be quite a messy job and requires a bit of time to complete. If you have the skills and time to replace the sprocket you can do it yourself. If not, let a professional do the job for you at competitive prices. The price of new sprockets and replacements will vary from one mechanic to the next.
