Sound engineering

Sound engineering, also known as audio engineering, is a branch of the engineering field that deals with all aspects of recording and reproducing sound, which can be achieved using different methods. Audio engineering jobs are mostly found in the entertainment industry, whether it be television, recording studios or live shows.

Many people might not know this, but during a live music performance, the band or artist performing relies on a number of other people to ensure that the entire show runs smoothly and successfully. One of the many people that you will often find behind the scene is sound engineers. Sound engineers, more commonly known as audio engineers, are the professionals responsible for dealing with the technical and mechanical aspects of music and sound when being recorded, mixed and reproduced.

Sound engineers will generally help record producers and musicians with the sound they need for their work. Audio engineers may choose to specialize in a particular subfield of sound engineering. Some may choose to become studio engineers where they work very closely with record producers on a daily basis, while other decide to become recording engineers, systems engineers or mix engineers. Whatever subfield sound engineers decide to follow, they will need specific pieces of equipment which can be obtained from one of many reputable suppliers at competitive prices. The workplace of sound engineers will depend on the subfield they choose to specialize in and may work in settings such as studios and theatres.
