Rope

Rope has been used for centuries on land in people’s home and out at sea on ships. Rope is very strong and flexible which makes it popular and easy to use.
Rope is made by twisting or braiding a bunch of fibres to make it strong and durable. The uses of rope have changed and so have the materials used to make them. Many years ago rope played a massive role in construction as people would tie heavy materials and lift them up with the use of pulleys and man power. This is obviously not the case now when it comes to construction.

Today you get adventure sports such as bungee jumping and rock climbing which make use of specialised ropes. With rock climbing the rope is used to secure the climber as a safety measure in the event that they might slip and fall. The rope is tied to a safety harness which the climber wears and the rope is run through anchors on the rocks. The rope needs to be strong enough to hold the weight of the climber yet flexible enough to allow free movement.

Rope is also used to tie down and secure objects. You could be transporting goods in a vehicle and in order to make sure that you do so safely without damaging them, you should use a rope to secure the goods.

The way rope is made and its uses might have changed but its importance hasn’t.
