Rice

Rice is a food grain that contains a number of vitamins and minerals that are extremely healthy for us. It is the seed of the grass species Oryza sativa or Oryza glaberrima, rice grows in a wide range of environments where there is a lot of lowland rain, lowland irrigated and in some instances in upland conditions. It is a cereal grain which is consumed by millions of people worldwide and is considered a stable food in most parts of the world, it is the third highest produced and consumed food after maize and sugarcane.

There are many varieties of rice depending on where it was grown, Asia, Far East, Africa and Spain are amongst the place where rice is grown and culinary preferences tend to vary regionally.  In Africa we steam or fry our rice, and the rice tends to remain intact after cooking, medium-grain rice becomes stickier and is used for sweet dishes, for risotto in Italy and arros negre in Spain while the much stickier medium-grain rice is used for sushi, the stickiness allows rice to hold its shape when moulded were as Short-grain rice is often used for rice pudding. In the Far East rice is usually mixed with different aromatic spices and enjoyed.

Rice is a highly beneficial food that is important for any healthy diet it is cholesterol-free, gluten-free, low in sodium, it contains great complex carbohydrates and low in fat.
