Educational psychologists

There are many factors that affect a child’s abilities to learn and simulate information they are being taught at school. Sometimes, parents do not realise that they are exposing their children to a hostile environment that is causing trauma to a child. Trauma and psychological distress manifest differently in different children. Some children will become violent, as a symptom that they have been exposed to a traumatic environment. Other children become loners, failed to socialize with other children. Educational psychologists are trained professionals, who are armed with skills which they can use to unlock a child’s psychological state.

When children are traumatised, this affects their school readiness, which means that they will learn concepts much slower, or at times, fail to learn at all and have poor grades. This is has a double negative effect, because poor grades means that a child fails even more to bond with others and now loses belief in his or her capabilities. People have to train to become educational psychologists. Psychologists are qualified doctors who will have chosen to specialise on diagnosis and treatment of psychological conditions.

Being able to treat a child with psychological problems, educational psychologists have to have repeated counseling sessions with the patient till they are able to understand their condition and hence, offer treatment. Doctors are not the only people that can administer counseling services. Nurses and other health professionals are also able to counsel patients. Contact local educational psychologists on the Yellowpages website.
