Nameplates

A nameplate is a metal or wooden material on which a person or product's name may be engraved on for identification purposes.

Nameplates are used in work places. They can be  badges for employees showing their names and titles. Sometimes they are used on hotel doors for numbering to avoid commotion whereby one cannot find their room.

In schools you find prefect, monitors and school club members wearing nameplates. Name tags are sewn on the uniforms or clothes belonging to the owner especially boarding school students to avoid stealing and mistaking someone else’s uniform to yours as they look the same. It also helps in reclaiming your clothing in cases of conflict when one may take another pupil's clothing. Schools sporting t-shirts also have names /logos that are printed on the back to show different sporting house members in competitions.

In departmental stores nameplates are used to identify and separate departments in the shop. For example, differentiating the fruit and vegetable area from the clothing department. Jewellery like bracelets, necklaces and rings can be engraved with the persons name to make the pice more unique.
