Music Instruction

Music instruction would generally be taught by a qualified music teacher on how to play and read various types of music. Most people would choose instruction on the piano for their children. However, playing other instruments like the guitar, drums, and the saxophone is also common.

Leaning music is much like learning a language. The proper instruction on how to respond and what to listen for is as important as understanding the tone, accent, and key words in normal speech. As such, music instruction from preschool into secondary school is common in most countries. This is because it is a viewed by each nation as a fundamental component of their culture and behaviour.

There are a number of different methods of music instruction one can learn. The Dalcroze method, better known as eurhythmics, would emphasize the benefits of physical instruction and response to music. This is while the Orff Schulwerk method of instruction allows students to develop their music abilities similar to the development of western music. The Suzuki method however, creates an environment that is the same as when one is learning their own native language.

Other methods, like the Gordon Music Learning Theory insists that the music be taught through the imagination for the auditory mode, while the Carabo-Cone Method uses props like costumes, and toys to teach basic musical concepts.

One of the fundamental aims of music instruction is to teach that music by itself is not a static component, but a living, personal, and evolving art form.
