Motor vehicle warranties

When people buy cars they are usually offered motor vehicle warranties to help cover the costs of parts and repairs. It is not a must for people to have motor vehicle warranties. Motor vehicle warranties are put in writing and usually on paper so that the car buyer can sign. People are encouraged to read the warranties carefully before signing or employing the services of a lawyer. After signing the warranty, no changes can be made unless agreed with the person and the company offering the warranty.

The terms of the warranty detail what the warranty covers; to what cost and for which motor vehicle including its registration number. It also includes the owner of the vehicle who is getting the warranty and from the period which it covers. This document also states the conditions that a person who is getting the warranty should not violate which result in the warranty being forfeited. The warranty of a vehicle is dependent on the value of the car, the make and the mileage of the vehicle amongst other factors.

When a person buys a vehicle from another person, the warranty passes from the original owner to the second owner only if the warranty is updated to reflect the new owner’s name. If that is not done, the warranty might also be cancelled. When a person fails to meet the conditions of the warranty, it is cancelled.
