Mining Exploration

Mining exploration is a form of prospecting for minerals. The purpose of conducting mining explorations is to find concentrations of minerals which are commercially viable. These ores are sometimes buried deep underground.

There are a number of stages to the exploration process. Each stage may require a different method of exploration, depending on size of the area being explored as well as kind of information needed. One of the most crucial steps in professional mineral exploration is the selection of the best and most prospective area. The idea of conducting the exploration in a particular area is based on applying a number of theories behind ore genesis. This is also dependent on known ore occurrences and the method of their formation. Whether it is nickel, gold, diamonds, or simple uranium that is being searched for, most mining companies or consortiums would first conduct market research to determine if it is worth their while to dig. This would depend on the infrastructure of the area and the military and political realities on the ground.

Some areas which hold vast amounts of ores may be experiencing military conflict.  Civilian governments may also be under pressure from conservation groups regarding the kind of mining that is being proposed. In some cases, threats of military takeovers which can result in loss of input costs may discourage mining companies from even considering prospecting in a particular area or country.
