Metal ore

A metal ore is a type of rock that naturally occurs; the rock contains certain types of minerals and metals that can be economically extracted from the rock. In general, ores are sulphides, silicates, oxides as well as ‘native metals’. Examples of metal ores include copper, sodium, bauxite, iron, manganese, titanium, platinum, gold and many more.

The metal ores are extracted from the earth through the mining process. It is good to note that some metals are expensive to mine such as titanium. Therefore, the mining costs need to be evaluated against the price at which the metals will be sold to determine if it makes economic sense to proceed with the mining process. The process of separating the metals from their ores is referred to as extraction. The metals can be extracted from the ore using various methods such as smelting or electrolysis. The method used is dependent on the stability of the ore as well as the reactivity of the metal and many other considerations. The service providers make use of different types of equipment as well as machinery.

The metals extracted from the metal ore are used for various applications such as construction, agricultural purposes, industrial purposes, medical purposes, plumbing and many more. The different metals have different properties which have their advantages and disadvantages.

Metal ore is a non renewable resource; therefore mining companies are always exploring different places for metal ore deposits. To find more about metal ore browse our Yellow Pages listings.
