Machine design started with the industrial revolution. Corporations released that the demand of goods exceeded the supply. Machines had to be designed and built in order for the factory mass production process to be possible. Machines offered efficiency and more importantly precision. The human hand could bring the art element or craftsmanship into the designs of the products however humans were not efficient enough.

Machines need to be efficient and precise in making products. This is possible with the invention of computer chips which are built into the machines and are programmed to enable the machine to perform certain functions and repeat the same function exactly the same way as the first time the machine performed that function.  The term used for the area where product parts are being assembled by machines is called the assembly line. After other machines have built the parts and components of a particular product then other machines will assemble the parts together to build a complete product.

The global community fears that the machine design would take over the work environment and the rates of unemployment would heighten because of machines being able to do more than individuals could ever do and do it with accuracy and precision. However machine design was invented to improve the lives of human beings. Factory mass productions are only possible due to the invention of machine and more and more people are being employed to maintain, repair and services the machines.
