Locomotives

Locomotives are powered railway vehicles used to pull or push trains. These are self propelled. They generate energy through fuel combustion, the use of electricity or magnetic levitation.

Judging by the fact that a locomotive can pull a train with passengers and or goods, it is evident that it is a powerful machine. Locomotives are not only able to pull or push trains on levelled surfaces only but on steep areas too. Locomotives are designed differently. Those which are used to pull goods trains are stronger than those that pull trains transporting people. This is because freight loaded in trains can total to very heavy weights.

Instead of using either a pulling or a pushing locomotive, some trains make use of both a push and a pull locomotive. Such systems can be used on railroads that support push-pull operations. This system prevents the need for track switching which consumes a lot of time as the train can move easily in any of the two directions.

Conveyors transport people and supplies from one location to another within a facility. These are commonly used in agricultural, mining, construction and various industrial activities. Conveyors are crucial with regards to production in organisations. They improve efficiency, as they are faster than manual handling of goods.

Locomotives are also a safety feature. In case of an accidents locomotive acts as buffer zones to the rest of the entire train thus securing passengers and freight. To find out more about locomotives, browse our Yellow Pages listings.
