Irradiation Treatment Services

Irradiation can be defined as the process by which an object is exposed to radiation. This radiation can be from various sources including natural sources.
Exposure to radiation is generally viewed in a negative light by the average person. Nevertheless, irradiation treatment services have positive benefits that many people are unaware of. Firstly, there is the process of food irradiation to improve the safety and shelf life of food by reducing or completely eliminating micro-organisms and insects.

This process can be equated to the pasteurisation of milk or the preservation of canned fruit. Food is thus made safer to store and consume. Contrary to popular belief, there is no change to the smell, texture or taste of the irradiated food. Irradiation however does not necessarily include being exposed to micro-waves, cellular phones, radio waves, television signals and power supplies.

Gamma irradiation services are also routinely used to sterilise medical, dental, and selective household products. Gamma radiation is used for the treatment of many forms of cancer. Irradiation is routinely concerned with the reflection of high energy streams of electrons to a targeted area, known as an X-ray, which is widely used in medicine to produce images of bodily structures. Irradiation is also used by companies using industrial chemistry to improve the material quality of semi-precious stones.

Agricultural irradiation treatment is a service used in the farming industry to mix genes in an already existing plant genome.
