Incentive programmes

Employers have different techniques that they used to encourage employees to increase productivity. Such a method is incentive programmes. Incentive programmes are used for employees whose performance can be easily correlated to the results.  When an employee is on incentive programmes, they are either paid in monetary or non monetary methods. Non monetary examples  are when employees are given rewards such as company paid vacations or a company car.

Employees that get these incentives feel very motivated to do even better. Incentive programmes are usually generated in the human resources department because they deal with all the labour related issues. The labour laws regulate incentive programmes in order to make sure that they are fair. This is especially applicable in government owned business where tax payers contributions are used to pay their salaries and incentives. In order for incentive programmes to be applied, they need to be written down clearly and agreed upon by the employer and employee.

Some businesses have been under fire for their incentive programmes which are considered too much especially if they are for the higher ranking employees such as executive officers. Employees of such companies have been known to strike over the exorbitant incentive programmes that the top officials have. Like most strikes, these have often resulted in violence such as intimidation, burning of tyres and barricading entrances. Police respond by using teargas on the protesters.
