Game farms

Game farms are places where a variety of wild animals are bred and kept until they are mature enough to be killed for various reasons such as meat, skin and other trophy collections. They provide facilities for tourists to observe and/or hunt the animals.

Game reserves have excellent game lodges for accommodating tourists that visit the safari. They have a huge collection of wildlife of various species. The place is rich in vegetation giving it an aesthetic viewing for visitors. Farm workers tour the place together with visitors and give them rules and regulations to observe so as to not compromise their safety or that of the animals. These may include less noise as it may agitate some animals and lead to attacks. Self-catering is prohibited as fire making may scare away some animals.

Natural reserves are places reserved and strictly managed to conserve wildlife, vegetation and geological features for viewing, research and study purposes. They are managed by the government or private land owners, their aim is to restore biodiversity and the ecosystem to let it flourish again if previously disturbed by human activity or climate conditions. During tours people are discouraged from uprooting plants and picking stones or collecting water from the natural pools.

The big five is available in game farms, nature reserves and national parks. National parks largely contribute to the economy as they allow school children and any other willing person to visit thereby promoting educational and recreational tourism.
