Franchise Opportunities

Franchising is the licenced commercial usage of a persons' intellectual property law rights. It offers someone who owns a certain intellectual property an opportunity to make the system and the use of the intellectual property available to others. Of course this is in exchange for payment. The franchisor provides the rights to the business. Franchisee obtains the right of use of the franchise from the franchisor. A franchise is an ongoing activity, with obliged continuous support to the franchisees. Royalties are to be paid to the franchisor.

Franchising can be to the advantage of both parties involved. It gives the franchisee the advantage of an already proven business system. The franchisor provides all the necessary training, advice and support on an ongoing basis. There are a number of franchise restaurants and take away food outlets in South Africa.  When selecting a franchise one has to carefully consider a number of aspects. These include demand for products or services, the franchisor background and competition.

In South Africa franchising is not governed by any legislation although the Consumer Protection Act deals with the aspects of franchising. It requires all franchise agreements to be in writing with a signature of the franchisee. To find more about franchise opportunities, browse our Yellow Pages listings.
