Food Chemicals

There are a variety of different food chemicals which perform different functions. Some chemicals are used in the preservation of food, some are used in enhancing the taste of certain foods and some are you used to change or enhance the colour of food.

Food colouring which is very popular is a chemical used to enhance or change the colour of food as some food can lose colour when it is prepared. Food flavours are chemicals that are used to enhance or change the flavour and sometimes smell of the food they are added to. These flavours can be produced naturally or manufactured artificially.
