FIRST AID INSTRUCTION

First aid instruction is a life saving skill which enables one to determine a person’s physical condition and administer the correct treatment. It is an essential human health skill for individuals, families and workers. Many accidents and emergencies occur unexpectedly at home, on the sports field and at work. The health sector and private institutions offer professional and accredited first aid training.

The sick and injured can seek aid from local paramedics and medical doctors who are a call away. However, trained family members or individuals are in a position to assist victims while professional help is on the way. Incidents resulting in injuries or ill health in the workplace may require immediate first aid procedures. Attending to victims responsibly requires a full understanding of first aid. Bleeding, heat strokes, shocks, respiration problems and other minor ailments need immediate attention.

First aiders need to familiarise themselves with contents of a first aid kit consisting of gloves, disinfectants, goggles, masks, bandages, a pair of scissors, cotton wool, safety pins, antiseptics and splints. The suppliers of these kits are recognised public and private institutes affiliated with the health sector. The equipment used is approved by local and international health standards councils.

First aid instruction is accredited by the health service sector. First aiders need to practice confidentiality to safeguard a patient’s health status records. For quality first aid instruction and training , families and companies can contact registered institutions for additional information. Most companies will provide inhouse training for a group of people.

The enlisted first aid instructors are found on our yellow pages website at www.yellowpages.co.za
