Engineers-geotechnical

Geotechnical engineers are qualified earth and soil professionals who evaluate the soil and other types of components of the earth to ensure whether a particular project site is ideal for a given project. They play a pivotal role in determining whether the soil beneath a structure that is to be constructed is strong enough to support the foundation of the structure without any risks.

If the soil is not containing much strength posing some serious effects like the collapsing of the structure, geotechnical engineers perform ground improvement and they use their expertise and knowledge to treat the soil and improve its strength hence constructing foundations on strong soils. Geotechnical engineers are equipped with all the knowledge in understanding how the infrastructure interacts with the ground and the infrastructure include bridges, dams, structures or buildings and roads just to name a few.

There are a number of geotechnical engineers in South Africa and they are found in different geographical locations. These geotechnical engineers are qualified and licensed to offer their services. Most of these engineers are members of an organisation called Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA). CESA provides quality assurance to the members and it plays a pivotal role in the promotion of engineering excellence.

Apart from geotechnical engineers, there are other professionals who provide with a number of services related to environmental issues that include water pollution, and soil contamination. These professionals are known as the environmental consultants and they offer their services to both public and private sectors. It is advisable to choose reputable environmental consultants for exceptional services.
