There are also chemical engineers who are involved in testing and developing new kinds of material in the military and automotive industries.
 
Like all engineers, chemical engineers use math and physics to overcome the technical issues facing them. However, chemical engineers will mostly apply their knowledge of chemistry above and beyond the general disciplines of engineering in order to produce an end result.
 
These engineers can also join professional organisations like The SA Institution of Chemical Engineers (SAIChE ). This body promotes the professionalism and standards of the profession while providing accreditation and constant education programs to their members.
 
It takes between 2 to 5 years to complete an undergraduate in chemical engineering, depending on the university you are attending.
