Electronic point of sale systems

Electronic points of sale systems are those that ring up ypur bill of sale at a grocery store, departmental store, corner cafes etc. Between a consumer and a retailer there has to be a receipt to prove that a consumer paid for a service or product purchased within the store. There are a number of options available  to a consumer on how to pay for the goods or services being purchased. These could be by cash, EFT or credit cards.

Point of sale may be referred to as a point of services because some customers would be paying their accounts and not purchasing anything at the time. Some customers may be ordering or returning goods bought from the store which makes the point of sale result in being called a point of service.

In purchasing of goods there are unique codes that are scanned called barcodes. These have been set to determine the price of goods and can be scanned to record the cost. There are cash counters at the point of service that help in keeping of money and also help with giving of change if there is a need for a change.  Retail shops use a scale at the point of purchase to weigh indivudal goods like fruit and vegetables. Restaurants and bars, on the other hand, use software to customize a service or goods being sold.
