Diesel Engines

A diesel engine is an engine where the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. Diesel engines are found in two-stroke and four-stroke versions. Modern diesel engines incorporate the features of direct (airless) injection and compression-ignition.

Diesel's original engine injected fuel with the assistance of compressed air, which atomized the fuel and forced it into the engine through a nozzle. Diesel engines in service today raise fuel to extreme pressures by mechanical pumps and deliver it to the combustion chamber. This is done using the pressure-activated injectors without compressed air.

Diesel powered vehicles have a better fuel economy, performance, reliability and durability than equivalent gasoline engines. A good example is a BMW car that uses diesel for its engine. Diesel engines have several advantages over other internal combustion engines. Due to its higher temperature of combustion and greater expansion ratio, diesel engines burn less fuel than petrol engines yet executing the same work. Also diesel engines compared to petrol engines have a lower maintenance and total lifecycle cost. They are a good choice for an economically-minded consumer.

Since the diesel engine uses less fuel than the petrol engine per unit distance, the diesel produces less carbon-dioxide per distance. Be smart and get your self a diesel powered automobile and enjoy driving right by all those fuel stations.
