Chlorinators

Chlorinators are devices used to add chlorine into water for disinfection purposes. Chlorinators are used in several places where there is a need to disinfect water such as sewages. Swimming pools too require the use of chlorinators. Often in swimming pools especially those that are used by many people (public swimming pools) there is bacteria that may be hazardous to people’s health. Chlorinators are thus used to remove the pathogens and create a safe water body for swimming.

Chlorine is often deemed as a harmful chemical to use on pools and may thus lead to health problems. However this is partly true, as chlorine is only dangerous when used in excess quantities. Almost every pool in South Africa uses chlorine to keep pool water clean. The important factor is to use chlorine in correct proportions to avoid the adverse results chlorine may have on swimmers. Chemical burns and lung damage may result due to excess use of chlorine.

Chlorinators are available in a variety of forms and in different brand names. A much safer chlorinator to use is a salt chlorinator. There are a variety of salt chlorinators that the swimming pool contractors and suppliers offer. The salt chlorinators offer a number of benefits. The salt water is much softer and healthier; it is thus convenient and there is no need to manually add the chlorine granules.

Different kinds of chlorinators have different pros and cons. It is thus important to note the effectiveness and potential hazards of each. To find out more about chlorinators, browse our Yellow Pages listings.
