CHAINS

A chain is usually made by connecting two or more links of metal together. For industrial purposes, chains are either used for pulling, securing something or lifting something up. The usefulness of chains are gauged by the way that they are made, via the design of the links. This method of building a chain can also contribute to its flexibility and durability. Along with this ability to manipulate the chain, one can also lengthen or shorten a chain for whatever purpose is required.

The first use of a chain was made in 225BC to draw a bucket of water up from a well. One of the world’s most famous thinkers, Leonardo Da Vinci, made sketches of what was regarded as the first steel chain in the 16th century. Chains are also used in conjunction with other devices like, plates and pins as well as rollers.

Another cosmetic use of a chain is commonly referred to as a necklace. This is a piece of jewelry that is worn around the neck. Sales of these chains are usually more prevalent in February, near Valentine’s Day. Gold chains would commonly form part of the birthday and anniversary gifts. While chains of this nature come in traditional gold, silver chains too are becoming popular. One of the common items to be attached to the chain would be a pendant. The pendant is actually a small container and is sometimes referred to as a locket. Other stones are also part of the items that are attached to jewelry chains, like diamonds and rubies.
