Cardiologists

Cardiologists are a type of medical doctor that deal with the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. These types of doctors need to specialise in this field once they have completed their medical degrees. Cardiologists diagnose and treat a variety of diseases relating to the heart and blood as well as with circulation. Cardiologists can choose to take part in adult cardiology or may prefer to specialise in paediatric cardiology only. Cardiologists are usually prescribed by a General Practitioner when they suspect that their patient is suffering from cardiovascular illness.

The cardiologists who have specialised in the treatment of adults are often not able to partake in paediatric cardiology unless they specifically undergo the training for this. Furthermore, the work of cardiologists must also be considered as a completely different speciality to that of a cardiothoracic surgeon. Cardiothoracic surgeons are trained to cut people open in order to perform surgeries where cardiologists use different methods for diagnosis and treatment.

Cardiologists may use a variety of techniques for the treatment of illnesses. This includes nuclear cardiologists who use a variety of nuclear technologies for the treatment of their patience. These types of cardiologists are often exposed to radioactive materials. Interventional cardiologists usually base their treatments on the use of catheters and may perform procedures such as angioplasties for their patience illnesses. Cardiologists may also be visited for advice such as that on risk factors.
