Building Contractors

A building contractor, also known as a General Contractor, is the person who manages the construction sight on a daily basis to ensure that the project runs smoothly. He must have extensive experience in the construction industry. The building contractor is also responsible for providing all services as well as the labour, equipment and materials needed for the construction of the project. Some of the materials and equipment are things such as electrical systems (switches, wiring), wall coverings, house painting, excavators, hydraulics and trucks to name a few.

To become a Building Contractor one does not have to have any qualifications although you can obtain a Bachelors Degree in building science, construction science and construction safety. It is however advisable to first become a construction worker and gain experience and also learn how the different trades such as plumbing and carpentry works before selecting a building contractor.

When a client makes use of a building contractor, the contractor will issue a quote with a fixed price or estimate to the client before any construction takes place on sight. If the client approves the quote, the contractor will hire the appropriate personnel, subcontractors, equipment and materials.

Building contractors can be divided into two categories. Commercial building contractors who will provide any commercial services and renovations for any commercial building whether it is a warehouse, shopping mall or convenient store. A Residential or Domestic building contractor oversees all the construction being done and completed for houses or housing projects.

It is recommended to do proper research about local and registered building contractors before making any final decision
