CAQS Quantity Surveyors was founded by Giel Cillié (PrQS), a registered member of The Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS). Giel graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science (Quantity Survey) degree, followed by registration as a Professional Quantity Surveyor in 1983. He was previously employed by Interplan Incorporated, Celliers and Liebenberg Quantity Surveyors and Norman and Siglé Quantity Surveyors. He started Giel Cillié Quantity Surveyors in 1985, and Cillié and Rautenbach Quantity Surveyors in 1986, changing the name to CAQS in 2001. He worked as a part-time senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria from 1988 until 1992. Giel was awarded a certificate of achievement by the Department of Environmental Affairs for his involvement in the construction of the Sanae IV base in the Antarctic in 1996. He was also awarded the certificate of merit as Quantity Surveyor by the South African Institute of Steel Construction in 1997 for the construction of the
