In 1915, a young Frank Donaldson Sr., then a Bull Tractor Company salesman, visited a customer whose farm tractor kept breaking down in his dusty field. So he fashioned an air cleaner to protect the engine from the dust. The invention the worlds first effective air cleaner for a tractor engine worked, and Donaldson Company was born.The company began in a Minnesota metal shop with Frank, his father, W.H.L., and his brother Bob. The three hammered out Franks invention.
