A Brazilian private equity company, InterCement is the market leader in cement in Portugal, Argentina, Mozambique and Cape Verde, ranking second in the Brazilian and Paraguayan markets, and having significant operations in South Africa and Egypt. The history of InterCement has been marked by the successful integration of acquisitions and continual implementation of new assets, always of similar size and superior to its own previous dimensions. The main examples of this competence were the mergers of Cimento Cauê, in Brazil, in 1997, Loma Negra, in Argentina, in 2005, and the most recent acquisition, in 2012, of the cement plant Cimpor. As part of its strategic objectives and a bold growth plan, InterCement became a partner of Cimpor inFebruary 2010, when it acquired a 22.17% share in the company. Shortly after, it acquired new shares and now holds 32.9%, consolidating its position as the largest single shareholder.
