Johannesburg Bantu High School was started in 1940, consisting of three classrooms and a Hall (which was used as a classroom during the day). The first Principal was Mr Harry P. Madibane who was seconded from St. Cyprian where he was a principal. The school started with Form 1 and the founding teachers included Mr. Jeremiah Monkoe (also from St Cyprian) Mr. Pothinius Mokgokong, Mr Manoto, Mr Jeffrey Mamabolo, Mr. Z. Mbalu, Mr. N. Ndebele was the vice (deputy) principal and Mr. Ben Mazwi, Mr H. Maphoto and the only female teacher Mrs C.J. Rabotapi.
