Four years ago the Diocese called an Indaba to listen to the youth. About 200 youth attended and one of the questions posed to them was: What do you want from us as a church?" Their response was very challenging: TEACH US HOW TO PRAY! The youth in this response expressed their spiritual thirst and hunger for God. This new generation of young people are rising beyong the post-modern mindset which wants authentic spirituality and an experience with the Divine over and above institutional church and dogmas. The diocese then organised a three day Youth Prayer Conference to meet this need. About 100 youth attended. They were taught how to deepen their relationship with God by learning different tools of prayer (eg: lectio divina, imaginative meditation, centring prayer). It seems that the youth went back and actually practised these different methods of prayer, ehich rsulted in them growing in their relationship with God and beginning to ask questions of life purpose.
