In 1975, at the foothills of the Drakensberg in KwaZulu Natal, Verbaan Builders (Pty) Ltd was formed. The company was established by Frank Verbaan and his father Dan Verbaan, who, in 1966 was one of the founding members of the renowned Hulson, Morgan and Verbaan. In 1981 the company moved from Underberg to the Natal North Coast and the companys name was changed to Verbaan Construction (Pty) Ltd. Between 1981 and 1996, Verbaan Construction (Pty) Ltd doubled its turnover annually and in 1996 saw the companys turnover top R36-million.
