The schooling system consists of primary, secondary and high school education, before learners graduate and attend tertiary colleges and institutions of higher learning and higher education. Primary, secondary and high schools can be further categorised into private and public schools. Private schools are those schools that are not run by the government but operate independently. They offer the standard education programs prescribed by the country’s education laws, but go on further to offer extra learning programmes beyond the minimum prescribed standards.
Private schools are run through private funding and hence, are able to employ their own teachers who are highly qualified. This results in the general trend where private schools have better learning conditions and produce better results than public schools. Public schools, on the other hand are run by the government. The appointment of teachers and the administration functions of the schools, including when the school terms start and end is all run by the state. Public school administrators do not have much control of the higher decisions made regarding the school.
Access to basic education has been identified as both a human and constitutional right for children worldwide. This means that both public and private schools are expected to offer a quality education that will empower future generations of the country. Primary, secondary and high schools are expected to have text books and facilities to enable learners to learn and graduate. Find a private school in your area on the Yellowpages website.
